Winthrop Professor Kadambot Siddique graduated with PhD degree from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1985. He is Hackett Professor of Agriculture Chair and Director, the UWA Institute of Agriculture.
Prof. Siddique has 30 years’ experience in agricultural research, teaching and management in both Australia and overseas. He has developed a national and international reputation in agricultural science especially in the fields of crop physiology, genetic resources, breeding research in cereal, legumes and oilseed crops. His publications are considered as key papers in the above fields and are widely cited. These publications include numerous highly cited papers on adaptation, physiology and genetics of crops to dryland environments. Recent papers published in Adv Agron, Crit Rev Plant Sci, J Exp Bot, J Proteome Res, Theor Appl Genet, with h-index of 34. Prof. Siddique has released 11 legumes varieties, and his pioneering research on chickpea has contributed enormously to the Australian chickpea industry (valued $300 million per annum).
Prof. Siddique is winner of the Western Australian Year of the Award 2014 (Professions Category) for his contribution to agricultural science and farming community. In 2013 he was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Agricultural Institute (FAAI). In 2012 Prof. Siddique was awarded the prestigious Hackett Professor of Agriculture Chair at UWA. In 2011 Prof. Siddique was made Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in Queen’s Birthday Honours List. In 2005 he was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE).
