Delegates of Institute of Crop Science Participated in the 2019 KSBS & SABRAO International Conference on Plant Breeding for Sustainable Development

The 2019 KSBS & SABRAO International Conference on Plant Breeding for Sustainable Development was held 2-5 July 2019 in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. The conference was organized by Korean Society of Breeding Science (KSBS), Society for the Advancement of the Breeding Research in Asia and Oceania (SABRAO), and co-organized by 8 Korean organizations. The conference consisted of 2 plenary sessions, 12 current sessions and one special session in Korean. About 1,000 delegates from 10 Asian countries and invited speakers from USA and Europe participated in the conference.

In total, about 20 Chinese delegates, from Chinese Academy of Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, North-eastern Agricultural University, Shanghai Normal University, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Science, participated in the conference. Three professors from the Institute of Crop Science, SHU Qingyao, SHI Chunhai and WANG Xuede, attended the meeting. Professor SHU delivered an invited speech for the current session of Mutation Breeding, entitled “Induced Mutation Versus Genome Editing Facilitated Plant Breeding: Commons and Differences in Genetics, Technology, Regulation and Cost-effectiveness”.

During the conference, professor SHU, SHI and WANG made extensive interactions with Chinese and foreign participants, which deems to enhance future international and domestic academic cooperation. SABRAO also announced that the next meeting will be held in China.
