During March 4, 2018 to March 8, 2019, Jie Qiu, the postdoc from Longjiang Fan’s lab in department of agronomy, went to study in Kenneth Olsen’s lab in Washington University as a visiting scholar. Doc. Qiu completed a review paper on the topic of “Genomic clues for crop-weed interaction and evolution”, which has provided new insights into crop breeding and agricultural weed management. The review has been published in《Trends in Plant Science》(IF=12.1).
During the one-year’s visiting, Doc. Qiu was invited by the PAG2019 meeting in San Diego in January 2019, and he gave an oral talk about “The Role of Balancing Selection and Other Forces in the Evolution of Weedy Rice” in the meeting. In addition, invited by the committee of Chinese Genomics Meet-up (CGM), he gave a presentation about his work on barnyarndgrass genome. The two talks were based on his two previous findings published both in 《Nature Communications》(IF = 12.4), and greatly contributed to increasing the international influence of the disciplines of plant genomics and evolution for our college.
