Four undergraduates visit the University of Tokyo for The Summer Internship Program

From July 12th to August 4th, 2018, four 3rd graders, Jiang Zhiyan, Lei Chenxu, Wang Xinjue and Zhu Zhen, from the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Zhejiang University participated in the University of Tokyo Summer Internship Program (UTSIP) and received research training in Integrated Bioscience major of The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS)

In this project, each student studied in a corresponding laboratory and needed to complete an experimental task with the help of the professors and laboratory members.

As for the experimental contents, Jiang Zhiyan studied the effect of radiotherapy on the physiological metabolism of mice brain cells; Lei Chenxu used morphological analysis to study the role of Atg2 in the process of autophagosome formation; Wang Xinjue had two research directions, namely using CRISPER /Case9 to induce mutations in the genes of silkworm and studying the effect of medium on the second cleavage of mouse embryos; Zhu Zhen studied the influence of sweetened diet on the expression of NPF in crickets.

This project is a precious experience. The students have gained a lot, not only having learned experimental operation and thinking methods, and experiencing many aspects of daily life in Japan, such as transportation, garbage sorting, food hacits and so on, but also improving English expression skills, in addition, making many good friends and regarding the lab members with the rigorous attitude towards everything as example for future work.
