From Mar. 27th, 2017 to Mar. 27th, 2018, Dr. He Xiaoyan jointed in the group of Professor Li Chengdao as a visiting fellow for the cooperative research at Murdoch University in Australia. And the funds were provided by the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology. Prof. Li Chengdao is a famous international scientist of molecular genetics and barley breeding. Currently, He is the director of Western Barley Genetics Alliance. During the visiting term, Dr. He Xiaoyan identified the major QTLs for traits of root hair density and drought tolerance using the unique barley materials and molecular markers kept in Prof. Li Chengdao’s lab. And the candidate genes controlling root hair density and drought tolerance were fine mapped to 1.8 and 2.8 Mb intervals on chromosome 7H and 5H, respectively. These results provide basis for identifying the key genes involved in root hair development and drought tolerance in barley, which is useful for the future crop improvement.
