Postdoc Wang Mingshuang from institute of biotechnology visits the Vanderbilt University for academic exchange

Postdoc Wang Mingshuang from institute of biotechnology paid a visit to the Vanderbilt University from April 7th 2017 to April 6th 2018.

Vanderbilt University is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee. As one of the most famous private universities, Vanderbilt University is ranked the 14th best university nationally by the U.S. News & World Report in 2018. It ranks only second to the Duke University in the south of USA and has the reputation of southern Harvard.

The lab Wang Mingshuang visited is charged by Antonis Rokas. Prof. Rokas is theCornelius Vanderbilt Chair in Biological Sciences and has great achievements in the fields of fungal evolution, genomics, and system biology. He has more than 120 SCI publications and more than 30 of them are published in NatureNature Ecol & Evol, Plant Cell, Mol. Biol. EvolTrends MicrobiolPNASCurr. BiolPLoS Genet Mol. EcolGenome Biol. Evol, and so on.

Wang Mingshuang mainly focused on the evolution of the conditionally dispensable chromosome and functions of genome in the tangerine pathotype of Alternaria alternata. He has finished 2 papers, one has already been published and the other has been submitted to a journal.

After the one-year visit to the Rokas lab, Wang Mingshuang was not only well trained in scientific thinking but also increased his ability in data analysis. His English level was also significantly promoted. Moreover, Wang Mingshuang has established a broad relationship and cooperation with Prof. Rokas and his labmates.
