Prof. Jiang Lixi attends The Canola Industry Meeting in Saskatoon,Canada

  Invited by Ag-West-Bio Canada, Prof. Jiang Lixi from the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology, Zhejiang University, attended The Canola Industry Meeting on Dec 5-7, 2017. Prof. Jiang was invited to give a keynote presentation titled as “The Rapeseed Industry and Research Focus in China” on the meeting. After the meeting, CTV of Canada visited and interviewed Prof. Jiang, about the current status of rapeseed production and research in China and Canada. Prof. Jiang also gave an overview on the history of the collaboration between the two countries in breeding towards ‘double-low’ quality of rapeseed in 1980s. CTV broadcasted the interview in air in the evening program on Dec 5, 2017.

  Canola Industry Meeting takes place in Saskatoon every year, as a big event of the Canadian canola/rapeseed industry. The attendees come from big seed companies such as DuPont, Bayer, Cargill, BASF, as well as governmental departments or research institutions such as Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, National Research Council, and also from universities. As a tradition, 1-2 invited speakers from foreign countries will come to give keynote lectures on the meeting.

  Canada and China are important countries for rapeseed industry, ranked 1st and 2nd on the world in term of total rapeseed production. Canada ranked the 1st for rapeseed exportation, and China is the 1st country in terms of the amount of rapeseed importation on the world market. Duration his week, the Canadian prime minister Trudeaou happens to be visiting Beijing, and the Canadian citizens are quite interested at the topic such as rapeseed production and research in China.
