Postdoc He Kang from Institute of Insect Sciences Visits University of Southampton

    Dr. He Kang was invited by Prof. Marc Rius from University of Southampton (United Kingdom) and Prof. Aibin Zhan from Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) to participate in the workshop “Detection and prevention of biological invasions: a major challenge for human societies and biodiversity conservation” hosted at National Oceanography Centre Southampton, UK from August 13rd to17th. This workshop was funded by the Newton Fund, United Kingdom and National Natural Science Foundation of China. The workshop contained academic presentations and round table discussion. 29 participants summarized their recent progresses in fast detection and prevention of biological invasion and exchanged widely.

    During the workshop, Dr. He Kang from Institute of Insect Sciences gave the oral presentation titled of “Large Genome Size is of Great Help to the Successful Invasion for Insects?”, reporting the impact of transposable elements in the insect genome on the character of biological invasion, which have attracted great attention from experts.

    At last, participants discussed intensely on the trend, the results and the cooperation of research on biological invasion in the future.
