During Oct. 7th to 20th, 2017, Prof. Bao Jinsong attended the American Association of Cereal Chemists International (AACCI) annual meeting (“Cereals 2017”) held in San Diego, USA. Prof. Bao chaired the luncheon of the Rice Division as the division chair, and co-chaired a symposium of “Moving Through the Plateau of Rice Quality with Omics Technologies”. In another symposium, Prof. Bao gave an oral talk on the Genetic basis and structural characterization of resistant starch in rice. During the meeting, Prof. Bao also attended the editorial board meeting of Cereal Chemistry, a flagship journal of AACCI. More than 800 scientists attended the 2017 annual meeting.
After the meeting, Prof. Bao was invited to visit the Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center (Stuttgart, Arkansas), University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), and Kansas State University (Manhattan, Kansas). Dr. Bao gave an oral presentation on the Genetic basis of eating and nutritional qualities of rice in the three institutes in addition to the extensive discussions with the colleagues on grain quality of rice. Upon these visits, Dr. Bao gains enough knowledge on the recent advances in the field of grain science and processing of rice, promotes scientific exchange and communication, and builds up some potential collaboration with the colleagues in the US.
