Prof. Lou Yonggen’s group from the Institute of Insect Sciences attended the joint meeting of the 33rd annual meeting of the ICSE and the 9th meeting of the APACE (2017 ICSE/APACE) held in Kyoto, Japan during August 23th –27th, 2017. The 2017 ICSE/APACE was held in Ryukoku University. More than 300 scientists from Japan, China, America, Germany and other countries participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, there are 4 plenary lectures and 4 award lectures. The meeting has 15 scientific sessions, including plant-animal interactions; characterization of semiochemicals: analysis and synthesis; microbial chemical ecology; plant perception and response; pheromone communication; aquatic chemical ecology; multitrophic interactions; semiochemicals in social interactions; chemical ecology of forest ecosystem; plant-plant communication; general chemical ecology; chemical ecology of invasive species; ecological omics: genome to the field; plants, microorganisms: next generation insecticides and utilization of semiochemicals in pest management. Each session includes 9-10 oral presentations and some posters.

Prof. Lou Yonggen was invited to give an oral presentation entitled “The leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase OsLRR-RLK1 in rice functions as an early regulator in plant-herbivore interactions” in the section of plant perception and response. PhD candidates Zeng Jiamei and Luo Ting from Lou’s lab introduced their research progresses by posters. PhD candidate Zeng Jiamei was awarded the “Student Travel Award” by the meeting.
