PhD student Shen Enhui from institute of crop science, supported by International cooperation research and exchange program of Zhejiang University, went to Australia for cooperation research for a half year from November in 2016 to May in 2017.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) is the federal government agency for scientific research in Australia. Its chief role is to improve the economic and social performance of industry, for the benefit of the community. CSIRO works with leading organizations around the world, and CSIRO Publishing issues journals with the latest research by leading scientists on a broad range of subjects. CSIRO has a unique research strategy and leading research ideas, which can be used for our research in China.

CSIRO also pays great attention to academic exchanges in the laboratory. The laboratory cotton disease research group which Shen Enhui joined, will discuss the research progress of the last week every Monday, then possible problems and the experimental process could be improved. Every two weeks, the large group will meet together to discuss the recent research progress. In addition, every week all scientists in the Agriculture Flagship would get together and make reports to share their work. So they can follow up the latest research and learn new things from other researchers. And these forms of communication can collide more sparks of thoughts.

CSIRO has a rigorous scientific research attitude and security awareness. Every new comer must pass the training and security knowledge evaluation, and we should comply with the laboratory rules and regulations when you do everything. The laboratory keeps constant temperature and the experimental platform is kept clean and tidy.

Shen Enhui said: “During the short half year, I have experienced a lot. Thanks for this opportunity, I have a new understanding of the world and a change of attitude towards scientific research”.
