July 26, 2016, Mr. Dazhu Yang, Deputy Director General of of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was invited to visit Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences in College of Agricultural and Biotechnology, Zhejiang University. Prof. Shiqiang Zhu, Vice President of Zhejiang University,Prof. Chen Ziyuan, Member of Chinese Academy of Science, Professors Yingwu Xia, Bujin Xu, and Yuejin Hua gave a warm welcome to Mr. Yang and together they had a cordial conversation. Mr. Yang graduated from Tsinghua University, ever served as China National Agency Department of International Cooperation, the Permanent Mission of China deputy representative institutions, Minister Counselor and other staff, and now he is the International Atomic Energy Agency Deputy Director-General from 2015. This visit is intended to help understand the field of nuclear energy and nuclear science and technology developments, to further promote nuclear technology cooperation between China and the IAEA .
Prof. Hua Yuejin, Director of Nuclear Agricultural hosted the meeting. First, Prof. Shiqiang Zhu, Vice President of Zhejiang University introduced the history and current status of major achievements of Zhejiang University in recent years. Then Prof. Hua reported the recent situation and development of the Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences, detailing the application and promotion of nuclear technology, personnel training and other aspects of achievements. Then they had a heated discussion about the application and promotion of nuclear technologies in agricultural field and existing problems. Finally, Mr. Yang thought highly of the achievements of Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences in nuclear technology application and promotion , and he said that many experience we shared was worth learning and could be promoted worldwide.
After that, Mr Yang visited the laboratories in the institute accompanied by the professors in charge of the laboratories. He was given an in-depth explanation of the laboratory equipments, science achievements, as well as future research directions. During the visit Mr. Yang raised some questions and laboratory directors gave comprehensive answers immediately. Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences has always keep good cooperation with The IAEA. Academician Chen Ziyuan was science consultant of the Director-General of IAEA and some professors in the institute are /were officers or specialists of IAEA . Mr. Yang expressed the hope that both sides can enhance contact and coordination in the field of nuclear agriculture, and hope Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences makes greater contributions in the future.
