More than 700 experts and scholars from over 60 countries around the world gathered in Clarion Conference Center in Prague, Czech Republic to attend the 7th International Weed Science Congress (IWSC) during June 19 to 25, 2016. Sponsored by the International Weed Science Society (IWSS), IWSC is an important platform for academic exchange of weed scientists all over the world and represents the highest level of academic meeting on weed science and technology.
Professor Longjiang Fan from the Institute of Crop Science (ICS) was invited to give a keynote talk on " The Echinochloa genomes reveal molecular mechanisms for their environmental adaptation ". Associate Professor Jinwen Zhu from Institute of Pesticide Science presented a poster on " Cross resistance to ALS inhibitors of Ammannia arenaria and its competition with paddy rice ". Dr. Chong Yang from ICS was invited to give a talk on " Alleviation of root holoparasitic Orobanche cumana infection by exogenously applied salicylic acid in host crop Helianthus annuus ". PhD candidates Jian Wang and Faisal Islam also delivered poster presentations about the effects of farmland weeds on crop growth and development as well as the preventive measures of weed control. These three young researcher and PhD candidates were led by their supervisor Professor Weijun Zhou to attend this important conference and all three of them received " IWSS Travel Award ".
Previously, the 6th IWSC was successfully held in Hangzhou in 2012. Professor Weijun Zhou was invited to serve as the Coordinator of the Congress. The 8th IWSC will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2020.
