Prof. Fan Longjiang was invited by Japanese Weed Science Association to take part in their 55th annual meeting held in March 28-29, 2016 at Tokyo University of Agriculture. Prof. Fan made a speech titled “The Echinochloa genomes reveal molecular mechanisms for their interaction with paddy rice” for the meeting.
Over 100 members of the association from Japan participated in the two-days meeting. The meeting invited two special lectures focus on genetic diversity analysis on weed-crop complex. Beside of Prof. Fan, a professor from Kyoto University was invited to report the weed invasions via cereal importation in Japan.
After the meeting, Prof. Fan visited two professors at Tokyo University, Prof. Okada at Research Center of Environmental Science and Prof. Sumio Sugano at Department of Computational Biology and Medical Sciences. During the visit, their cooperation project (gene cluster for momilactones in rice-barnyard grass) and potential projects (such as non-coding RNAs in lung cell under smoke exposure) were discussed.
