From Oct.30 th -Nov.3rd, Lei Peng, undergraduate of CAB, participated in IGEM2014 in Hynes Convention Center, Boston, MA. International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM competition), is an annual large-scale international student extracurricular academic competitions, held by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, aims to promote the Synthetic Biology and promote international university students to learn, exchange and cooperation in this field. Synthetic biology is an interdiscipline just rose in the beginning of the 21st century, emphasizing the "design" and "re-design" and its purpose is to design and build artificial biological systems to solve the energy, materials, health and environmental protection and other issues.
With over 2500 Synthetic Biology researcher from 245 universities across 32 countries in attendance, the Giant Jamboree is sure to be the largest gathering of synthetic biologists to date. The entire competition is divided into two parts: poster session and presentation. ZJU-CHINA IGEM presented project GeneSocket to the other teams from around the world. In the poster session, ZJUCHINA IGEM team expressed the details of the project to other interested teams, and also communicated with the Shanghai Jiaotong University, Peking University, Freiburg and other IGEM teams.
