Dr. Chen Kunsong led a delegation to visit Plant & Food Research Institute in New Zealand

During Aug. 23-26, Dr. Chen Kunsong led a delegation of Fruit Science Institute at Zhejiang University to visit Plant & Food Research Institute in New Zealand. The delegation included Dr. Li Xian, Dr. Sun Chongde, and Dr. Yin Xueren.
Plant & Food Research is a leading scientific research institute and plays important role in the horticulture. Zhejiang University has a long collaboration relationship with Plant & Food Research, especially in the fruit quality biology. A series of co-authored papers have been published in the top journals such as ‘Plant Physiology’, ‘Journal of Experimental Botany’, and ‘Plant, Cell & Environment’, etc. Dr. Ian Ferguson, the chief scientist in Plant & Food Research, is a Guangbiao professor of Zhejiang University. He also won the Chinese Government Friendship Award and West Lake Friendship Award in 2013.
During the visit, Dr. Chen and all the delegation members had a good talk with Dr. Ian Ferguson, Dr. Gavin Ross (general manager), Dr. Ross Atkinson, and Dr. Roger Harker. Both sides jointly reviewed the history of cooperation and discussed further cooperation plans, including the research plan of fruit sensory evaluation, program on regulation of fruit flavor and aromatic substances. In addition, detailed plans for the preparation of the second International Workshop on Biology of Fruit Quality, which will be held in Hanghzou in 2015, were discussed during this visit. Dr. Ian Ferguson also showed the large-scale artificial climate chamber for transgenic perennial fruit tree and other new facilities.
Such visit strengthened the friendship and cooperation between Zhejiang University and Plant & Food Research Institute in New Zealand.
