Professors attend the 29th International Horticultural Congress

From August 17 to 22, 2014, Prof. Chen Liping, Jia Huijuan, Zhou Yanhong, associate Prof. Shi Kai, and Postdoctor Li Junxing attended the 29th International Horticultural Congress. This congress, which is held every 4 years, is an important platform for academic exchange in the horticulture research field.
The theme of this conference wasSustaining Lives, Livelihoods and Landscapes’, which contained all aspects of fundamental research and industrial development of horticulture. Such as plant breeding and cultivation technology in horticulture, fruit and vegetable for health, molecular biology in horticultural, evaluation and utilization of the genetic diversity of horticultural plants resources, tissue culture and post-harvest knowledge for the future etc. At the same time, the conference organizers also displayed and promoted new varieties and new equipment.
According to every teacher’s own research field and interests, they attended different seminars, and understood the latest research progress in related fields and the development trend in the future. On August 19th, 2014, Li Junxing gave an academic report of ‘Production and characterization of interspecific hybrids between tuber mustard (Brassica juncea)and red cabbage (Brassica oleracea) through embryo culture’ in the horticultural plant breeding seminar. He introduced the synthesis pathway, biology characteristics and application prospect of new Brassica tri-genomes vegetable germplasm, and other related studies about somatic hybridization and inheritable variations induced by grafting, which was concerned by many international counterparts.
By attending this conference, the teachers of our college have a comprehensive understanding for horticulture breeding, fruit and vegetable industry, interaction of plant and environment and other related researches, and it also expends our college’s international influence.
