Deng Wan, a PhD student from Prof. Mo jianchu in Insect Science Institute, Zhejiang University, went to London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to study for about 6 months. London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is well-known for its good reputation on control of different kinds of infectious diseases, such as Dengue and Malaria. This school had been devoted to improving health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
During the placement in LSHTM for 6 months, Deng Wan was honored to be one of student in Dr. James Logan team. James, a director of a Arctec company, runs his own research group in chemical ecology and concentrates on the development of novel methods to monitor and control medically and veterinary important arthropods. The research group uses various in-house techniques, including field and laboratory-based behavioral experiments, coupled GC-EAG, coupled GC-single-cell (GC-SSR) and analytical chemistry (including GC). These technical capabilities and equipment had helped her obtained a lot of valid data, which will greatly benefit her PhD research. Except of work she had done in LSHTM, she also spent a wonderful life in Logan team. Everyone did his or her best to help her, no matter at work or in life. The mutual exchanges and sharing of learning among the academic groups can greatly promote the progress of the studies. Therefore we believe that by doing this, both sides will benefit.
