During Jul. 3rd to Aug.15th, 2017, Undergraduate student Liang Jingting from Department of Applied Bioscience visited the University of California at Berkeley (UCB) to attend the eight-week summer courses. The project aims to provide students with an opportunity to participate in the short term of the University of Berkeley, follow the well-known professors to learn the forefront of knowledge, and work together with students from all over the world.

Students in the project are free to choose the professional courses, and get their final grades according to classroom exhibitions, extracurricular research, test scores and other comprehensive assessment. Liang Jingting followed David Larue to carry out a systematic study of human anatomy theory, and chose the MCB Robin Ball laboratory neuroscience experimental course. The theory of human anatomy has detailed the specific structure of the human nervous system, especially the brain. Professor showed students in the classroom with the human brain specimens for teaching, let them learn through observation of the brain and the structure of the distribution. The teacher also introduced the study of the forefront of neurology at present, and asked students to write the relevant course papers and discuss them, inspiring the students to study in thinking. Laboratory courses focus on cooperation and independent experiments. Professors only gave students a rough purpose and protocol of the experiment, encouraging students to consult the relevant literature and improve the experimental plan. In addition, students should write a detailed experimental report through reflection. What’s more, the autonomous experiment was arranged in the last two weeks, after which students made a presentation about the process and results.

Through this project, they learned about the undergraduate teaching and learning methods of the world-famous school, Berkeley, broadened their horizons, and built a solid relationship with the professors and students. They also improved the level of English writing and expression. In the spare time they traveled to Los Angeles and Silicon Valley, participated in the sailing, fishing and other projects.
