Our journey to Malaysia for the International Conference on Sustainable Soil Management, started from April 4th to 9th with A/professor D.IMRAM in charge of the group, which had 9 students in total, including one post graduate student and 8 bachelor students. Different professors, researchers from different parts of the world joined and had opportunities to present their work in this conference. After the conference it was organized a post conference tour, which gave people the opportunity to go on the field and experienced soil quality.

We were there representing Zhejiang University. Among us who joined the conference 4 persons had the opportunity to deliver different presentation each, including A/professor D.IMRAN who was selected as the chairman of one of the conference’s session, then FAZAL KARIM,XIANGXI YU and JOAN HEREN ISSAKA. After the conference our group exchange with most of the participants    and we also joined the post conference tour, during which we went to visit the field of Kabulo, and had a strong debate on the soil samples that were there for studies.

Each one of us who joined the post conference tour was given a manual with the description of the tour. Arrived the location of the experiment, we found that there was a problem in the manual, the soil analysis data was completely wrong from what we saw on the field.

As you can see on the picture below the numbers it showed in the manual and the type of the soil it is supposed to be accordingly are not compatible to the field soil sample on the picture.

From the pictures, the result shows that we have a sandy soil which is supposed to contain 60% of sand in it. However, from the extracted sample of the soil we have on the picture, it shows clearly that this type of soil is not a sandy soil but clay.

April 8th, we traveled back to Kuala Lumpur after the post conference tour. Where we had the chance to go exchange with the International Islamic University of Malaysia. During the visit to the University, we’ve met with the dean of the college of Agriculture. It was a great meeting during which we introduce Zhejiang University to them and also discussed cooperation options. This was a great experience for group and had positive impact on our studies.
