Undergraduate student Fu Junhong participated in the exchange program in University of Rhode Island (URI), from 31st August to 23rd December, 2016. This exchange program allows students to enroll courses freely, so that they could experience exactly the same school life as students in URI. Students could not only get familiar to the American teaching style, enhance skills in language and communication, but also spread Chinese culture while being a Chinese tutor in Confucius Institute.

As a Landscape Architecture student, she chose four courses in URI: Landscape design studio, Landscape plants, Color science and Oral English skills for public. The exotic learning experience greatly broadened student’s horizon. Among these, the studio course with the lectures delivered by professional designers had a profound influence on her. She and her classmates learned the processes and principles of general design, improved abilities of doing researches and giving public speeches, and got to know the trend of Landscape Architecture as well. In addition, Junhong did many extracurricular activities, such as working as a teacher’s assistant in Chinese courses and participating in some clubs and local festivals.

The international exchange program benefited the student a lot. Apart from making the student more open-minded in personality and more professional in her own major, she also appreciated the charm of a multicultural country by making friends all over the world. And visiting some masterpieces of landscape in the birthplace of modern landscape would definitely perform as a foundation for her future practice.
