Title:

Recent progress in canola abiotic stress tolerance

Lecturer

Dr. Sheng Chen, University of Western Australia

Biography

PhD at Huazhong Agricultural University in 2000 worked on molecular marker-assisted selection in hybrid rice. From 2000 to 2002, he worked at University of Montpellier, France, studying the expression and regulation of aquaporin (water channel protein) genes in Arabidopsis under salt stress. From 2002 to 2005, he worked at CSIRO Plant Industry, Australia, studying the components of stress signalling pathways in Arabidopsis. Since 2005 Sheng joined University of Western Australia working on canola, with particular interest in improving the abiotic stress tolerance in canola. He is now the coordinator of the drought and heat stress component in an international collaboration canola project among Australia, China and India. He is also leading the canola heat tolerance research in a national canola pre-breeding project in Australia.
