Abstract:
Agriculture will undergo a revolution in coming years – driven by biotechnologies and what could broadly be defined as information technologies. Future farmers will be growing “smart” crops with highly specialized traits, and they will be using drones, smart phone apps, internet based decision support tools and highly sophisticated equipment to precision target applications of inputs, such as pesticides and releases of natural enemies. For the revolution to truly unfold, there will be a demand for a new type of farmers, and also a need for new types of agricultural scientists – it is this exciting future I intend to discuss in this seminar.
