Group of Plant Stress Physiology
Institute of Plant Science and Resources, Okayama University, Japan

Prof. Guoping Zhang
Biography:
Prof. Ma Jianfeng is a well-known phytologist with great contribution to plant stress physiology. He is a full-professor in Okayama University and also takes positions as Associate Editor of Functional Plant Biology and Section Editor of Plant and Soil. His group focuses on plant mineral stress tolerance and mineral transport system in plants. They have identified a number of Al tolerance genes in rice and barley and more recently, they also have elucidated the mechanisms regulating the expression of Al-tolerance genes. With his efforts, many genes involved in uptake, translocation, distribution and redistribution of mineral nutrients including Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn and Si have been identified in rice and other plants. Furthermore, transporters for toxic elements such as As and Cd have also been identified. Over the last 14 years, he has published over 140 peer reviewed papers in international journals including Nature, Trends in Plant Science, Nature Communications, PNAS, Plant Cell, Plant J, Plant Physiology and so on. His scientist ranking in Plant & Animal Science (Essential Science Indicators, ESI) is 66, with a 33.8 citations per paper. His H-index is 61 (Google Scholar, Dec 2014).
