Prof. Shu Qingyao attends the FNCA Mutation Breeding Project Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia, 3-8 March 2014

By invitations of Dr. Hendig Winarno, Director, Centre for Applications of Isotopes and Radiation, National Nuclear Energy Agency, Indonesia, and Dr. Hidetaka Ishikawa, Secretary of Japan Nuclear Safety Association, Professor  Shu Qingyao attended the Forum of Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) Mutation Breeding Project Annual Meeting.
Before the annual meeting, an open seminar entitled “Strengthening Mutation Breeding Approach for Mitigating Climate Change” was held, with the attendance of ~200 researchers from universities, research institutes, as well as private companies. Professor Shu delivered a lecture entitled “Workable Male Sterility Systems for Hybrid Rice: Genetics, Biochemistry, Photo-/thermo-biology”.
The FNCA Mutation Breeding Project was sponsored by the FNCA Secretary, and participated by Bangladesh, China, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Professor Shu was assigned as China National Coordinator for this project. After constructive discussions on the research work implemented in each participating country and work plans for the coming year, the meeting was concluded on 8 March. The group recommended China to hold the next meeting in Hangzhou, with the support of Zhejiang University.
