Grand held of International Symposium on Tea Science and Tea Culture 2014

     International Symposium on Tea Science and Tea Culture 2014 was held from November 4th 2014 to November 6th 2014 in Jeju Korea. The symposium was co-hosted by Korean Tea Society, Tea Research Institute of Zhejiang University and Tea Science Society of Zhejiang, China. About 150 participators were all top researches in tea science and tea culture, including German, American, Indonesian, Sri lankan, Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese of China and Korean. The symposium covered tea processing and manufacture, tea breeding and physiology, tea cultivation and biochemistry, tea culture and health. Participators also discussed the cooperation of international tea science and tea culture improvement.

    At November 4th, the president of The Korean Tea Society, professor Eun presided the opening ceremony in ICC of Jeju, Korea. And Dr. Kim from American tea and coffee research institute presented the overview of current tea market status and issues in the hottest tea drinking nation: the US; Professor Liang from tea research institute of Zhejiang University presented the development trend of tea industry in China; Dr Tu from tea research institute of Zhejiang University reported the development of tea culture in China; Dr Yoo from Jangwon co. ltd Korea reported the present state of tea marked in Korea; Professor Abeysinghe from Wayamba University of Sir Lanka presented the Sri Lankan tea industry: current status and future trends; Dr Ho from Taipei Medical University reported recent trend of Taiwan tea industry and scientific achievement: a clinical trial study for tea-prevent smoking-induced cardiovascular atherosclerosis formation; Dr Yoo from Kookmin University presented the development and refinement of royal court tea ceremonies during the period of King Jeongjo of Joseon Dynasty; Dr Yo from World Buddhist University reported the realizing the ultimate ideal of Korean tea culture through “The fifth Dimension”: tracing the roots from tea master myung won kim to zen master chinul.

    In the symposium, 32 researches reported orally, and 29 posters were presented. 26 investigators from Tea Research Institute of Zhejiang University exhibited their researches and discussed with all the international participators. Also, The Korean Tea Society arranged Korean tea performance; all participators enjoyed the beauty of tea and music. At November 6th, all participators visited the Seo-gwi, Han-nan and Sung-eub tea gardens and factories. 

    The International Symposium on Tea Science and Tea Culture 2014 enhances the communication and cooperation of Tea Institute of Zhejiang University and the international tea science research institutes, improves the development of our research in tea domain, and enlarges the horizon of all the students.
