Prof. Xia Yiping, two post-doctoral fellows, Dr. Zhou Hong and Dr. Zhang Jiaping, and one PhD student Wu Yun were invited by Prof. Nigel Dunnett, Department of Landscape, the University of Sheffield to visit the United Kingdom and the University of Sheffield during May 22th-June 8th.
They met the colleagues in the research group of designed ecology, and attended the symposium on planting design materials, such as perennial and steppe meadow held by Prof. Nigel Dunnett. They visited some typical projects designed by Prof. Nigel Dunnett both in Sheffield city and London city. The potential projects on sustainable landscape design were discussed in detail as well.
After the meeting, they visited 10 classical English Gardens including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Great Dixter House & Gardens, RHS Wisley Garden, Stourhead, Hidcote Manor Garden, Arley Hall & Gardens etc. They also visited two world famous botanic gardens, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Kew Garden, mainly for the rhododendron germplasm collection relating to the research subjects in Prof. Xia’s group. They experienced the Chelsea Flower Show held by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in Chelsea, London, which is the most famous flower show in the world.
