Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the professor of Shandong Agricultural University and doctoral tutor Huairui Shu was invited to visit our University at May 5 - 6, 2012. Academician Shu and his entourages, Prof. Qifeng Dong and Prof. Yujin Hao, were received warmly by Prof. Shanglong Zhang and Prof. Kunsong Chen from Institute of Fruit Science. During the visit, Academician Shu carried out academic exchanges and made a special presentation to the teachers and students.
On the afternoon of May 5, after listening to the reports on the development situation of fruit science and related research progress, Academician Shu praised the development during recent years, meanwhile he suggested that the institute could build on the inheritance of the scientific research from the old generation and create fruit science research with unique characteristics of Zhejiang University. After the exchange, Academician Shu and his entourages visited the laboratories of the Institute.
On the morning of May 6, Academician Shu and his entourages visited the experimental farm greenhouse, cool rooms and parts of the laboratories of Institute of Vegetable Science. Afterwards, some Masters students and PhD students reported their research progress and communicated with Academician Shu face to face.
Academician Shu made a special presentation on “the fruit of research progress”. During the report, he introduced the development of pomology in China, as well as the experience in basic research and application in practice. He also shared his experience in daily work and research work with the students and offered some suggestions from his success in academic research. Shu wished that all the students could become much more aware about the final aim and meaning of the research, and think about the further research direction. Thus he hoped everyone would try their best to develop the research on fruit science in China.
