Members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the president of Huazhong Agriculture University, Prof. Xiuxin Deng was invited to visit the Faculty of Agriculture, Life and Environment Science, ZJU, and received warmly by Prof. Jun Zhu (vice chairman of Development Committee, ZJU), Prof. Guoping Zhang (Director of the Faculty of Agriculture, Life and Environment Sciences, ZJU), Prof. Jingquan Yu (vice dean of College of Agriculture & Biotechnology), Prof. Kunsong Chen (head of Institute of Fruit Science) and Prof. Jiashu Cao (head of Institute of Vegetable Science).
Academician Deng made an academic report entitled “Citrus cell engineering and genetic improvement” to all the students in the lecture hall on the first floor of College of Agriculture & Biotechnology on the afternoon of May 10, 2012. During the report, he introduced progress on the research on citrus denuclearization in Huazhong Agricultural University, the main strategies on citrus breeding improvement in China, and the application of somatic hybridization in citrus breeding, as well as the research progress in citrus genome sequencing and pigment production. Deng not only talked about his research experience and great success in research activities, but also indicated some significant new research directions. This greatly inspired the teachers and students present.
Later, Academician Deng visited the experimental farm greenhouse, cool rooms and parts of the laboratories of the Institute of Vegetable Science, and has further talks with the students.
