Research

To meet the challenge of adversity environment caused by global climate change and the needs of human healthy, We combines expertise in Cell engineering, genetic engineering, modern molecular biology and various technologies, such as physical (chemical) mutagenesis, introgression crossing and grafting, to evaluate genetic resources of horticultural crops and to create new breeding strategies. Our motto is “Innovate Germplasm, benefit human beings”. We are currently using several important horticultural species, such as mustard, watermelon, melon, tomato and edible fungi (used in Chinese traditional medicine), as materials to identify function of important genes and investigate the molecular mechanism of biotic and abiotic stress resistance and organelle-nuclear communication in above species. At the same time, we also focus on application researches, such as breeding new environment-friendly varieties and developing new breeding technologies.
