About the lecturer:
Dr. Gan is Professor of department of Horticulture, Cornell University. His research focuses on molecular regulatory mechanisms of plant senescence and dimensional control of gene expression in plants. This research has implications on the yields of certain crops and their storage after harvest. His papers have been published in Science, Nature Biotechnology, Plant Cell, PNAS, Plant Journal, Plant Physiology, J Exp Bot, with h-index of 26. His gourp currently has identified an enzymatic fountain of youth that slows the process of leaf death, a discovery that lays the foundation for the genetics of freshness.
His main research areas include: Functional characterization of a subset of senescence-specific transcription factor genes in Arabidopsis; Networking leaf senescence transcription factors in Arabidopsis; Map-based positional cloning and characterization of genetic loci that regulate expression of senescence-specific genes; and development and use of TASSEL tagging system for cloning senescence-inhibiting genes in tobacco plants.
