The Cluster of Excellence on plant Sciences (CEPLAS) is a joint effort among Heinrich Heine University, University of Cologne, Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and Forschungszentrum Julich. CEPLAS holds a unique position within the German Excellence Initiative as the only cluster focusing exclusively on plant science.  Professor Qiaomei Wang from Department of Horticulture, Zhejiang University paid an invited visit to the Biocenter of University of Cologne as a guest scientist of CEPLAS due to her recent important contributions to the research fields of plant natural products and phytohormone signaling.

Professor Wang visited the Biocenter of University of Cologne from March 24 to March 31, 2014. During the stay in Cologne, She was warmly welcome by Professor Flügge and Dr. Gigolashvili, and gave a CEPLAS seminar entitled “Chemical regulation of glucosinolate biosynthesis in Cruciferae plants in the lecture hall of Biocenter at University of Cologne on March 28, 2014 (http://ceplas.eu/en/events/archive/2014/03/28/2014-03-28/). Her scientific exchanges with the colleagues at University of Cologne will help establishment of potential collaboration between her lab and a number of research groups in University of Cologne on regulation of glucosinolate biosynthesis.

Professor Wang also visited Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB), where she was hosted by Professor Steffen Abel, the Department chair of Molecular Signal Processing and Vice Managing IPB-Director.  During the visit she gave a presentation entitiled “Myrosinase-dependent degradation of indole glucosinolate attenuates the PCD induced by Fumonisin B1 as part of the IPB seminar series.  She also discussed the research progresses in jasmonic acid (JA) signaling with Professor Clause Wasternack, a world renowned scholar in the field of JA, and visited the Metabolite Profiling experimental platform, accompanied by Professor Dierk Scheel, Department Chair ofStress and DevelopmentalBiology, and an editor of Plant Journal. During her visit, Professor Wang introduced the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology and Zhejiang University to the IPB colleagues, and invited them to visit Zhejiang University in the near future.
