Faculty members attended 2nd International Conference on Postharvest Technology & Quality Management

From November 24 to 29, 2012, Prof. Kun-song Chen, associate Prof. Chong-de Sun, associate Prof. Bo Zhang and associate Prof. Xue-ren Yin attended the 7th CIGR International Technical Symposium / 2nd International Conference on Postharvest Technology & Quality Management, which is an important academic communication platform about agricultural products quality, postharvest technology and logistics in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
  This conference topic covered all aspects of agricultural products quality, postharvest technology and logistics, including (1) Packaging design and optimization; (2) Processing of agricultural products; (3) Sensory and nutritional quality; (4) Non-destructive testing; (5) Pathogens and food safety; (6) Handling and processing of meat products; (7) System modeling; (8) Postharvest treatment; (9) Drying process and technology; (10) Packaging and Warehousing; (11) Cold Chain and logistics; (12) Pomegranate postharvest research project and so on. Research experts and scholars from all over the world in related fields made a series of excellent academic reports. 
  At the conference, associate Prof. Chong-de sun introduced the research on the bioactive substances of bayberry fruit in a report entitled ‘Hypoglycemic Effect and Anti-tumor Activity of Chinese Bayberry Fruit Extract’. Associate Prof. Bo Zhang gave another report with the title ‘Cold Chain Logistic of Postharvest Chinese Bayberry’. 
Prof. Kun-song Chen had talks with the well-known scientists during the conference, including Prof. Ian Ferguson from Plant & Food Research of New Zealand, Prof. Bart Nicolai from Leuven University, Prof. Chris Watkins from Cornell University, and Prof. Susan Lurie from the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture.
