Tomato researchers from BTI and Cornell University visited Zhejiang University

  Prof. James J. Giovannoni and Prof. Zhangjun Fei from BTI and Cornell University and Dr. Silin Zhong from the Chinese University of Hong Kong visited the Fruit Science Institute of Zhejiang University from October 17 to 19, 2013.
  Ms Liping Xu from the Sci-Tech Academy of Zhejiang University who is in charge of basic research and oversea projects outlined to the guests the latest developments in academic education, scientific research and future developments at Zhejiang University. Prof. Kunsong Chen, head of the Fruit Science Institute, introduced the research progresses on fruit quality. Professor Giovannoni gave an introduction to Cornell University and research on the tomato genome and Dr. Zhong presented his work on transcriptional regulation of tomato ripening.
  In May, 2011, Zhejiang University and Cornell University, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Western Australia signed a cooperation agreement, and set up a partnership. In the last two years, there has been great progress on fruit ripening regulation and functional genomics research through the academic exchanges. During this visit, Prof. Giovannoni, Prof. Fei and Prof. Chen discussed the collaboration on future research and co-supervision PhD students. This visit promoted the cooperation with foreign research institutions and also proposed suggestions for the future development of fruit quality research.
