Major Research Interests:
- Physiological and molecular interaction between parasitoids and their host insects, in particular physiological functions of immunosuppression factors from parasitoids
- Innate immunity of insects and antimicrobial peptides
- Insect reproductive physiology, in particular vitellogenesis and its endocrinal regulation
- Bio-safety of transgenic crops, in particular ecological safety of Bt rice.
- Resistance of insects against insecticides and heavy metals
- Biological control of agricultural insect pests, in particular with parasitoids.
Research Activity:
Main research activities have been focused: 1) Bio-safety of transgenic crops, in particular ecological risk evaluation of Bt rice; 2) physiological interaction between a pupal-specific parasitoid, Pteromalus puparum (Hymenoptera: Peteromalidae) (no other parasitoid associated immunosuppression factors other than venom are found in the female reproductive organ) and its host, Pieris rapae to define biochemical and molecular characterizations, physiological functions of the venom from this parasitoid; 3) the innate immunity of Pieris rapae and its alterations after parasitism by the parasitoid, P. puparum; 4) the antimicrobial peptides/proteins from parasitic wasp are screened using the method of cDNA library; 5) the vitellogenesis and its endocrinal regulation of parasitic wasps such as P. puparum, and other important insect pests e.g. Bemisia tabaci; 6) resistance of insects to insecticides and heavy metals and its biochemical and molecular mechanism.
